New Zealand Travel SIM Card | 30 Day | Unlimited Data
Thank you for purchasing a Prepaid Travel SIM Card. We’re so excited that you chose our SIMs to be apart of your travels. Before you embark on your adventures, there are some handy things you should know.
1. Before You Depart
Ensure your device is unlocked from your Aussie Carrier.
Important! Do not insert in Australia or prior to arrival in NZ. Doing so will activate your SIM on a roaming basis and void your SIM plan for use in NZ.
2. Activating Your SIM
When you arrive in NZ, insert the SIM and wait for your phone to pick up network signal. You will then receive a sequence of welcoming/activation texts from the network. Please only begin to use your SIM after the final text confirming your plan activation has been received.
- The 1st text is will say Welcome to 2degrees and it will include your assigned NZ mobile number beginning with 02.
- The 2nd text will confirm that your plan has been added ($45, $60 or $85 Prepay Plan)

Important !
Occasionally, the 2degrees network activation servers can be down for maintenance causing your SIM's plan to not activate immediately. If after installing your SIM in NZ, you receive a text saying that $45, $60 or $85 "Prepay Credit" has been applied, but have not received the activation text confirming that your $45, $60 or $85 "Monthly Prepay Plan" being added. You will need to manually apply the pack.
Do not begin to use data or make calls, as this can deplete the credit inside your SIM, leaving not enough to activate your SIM plan. You can manually apply your SIM's plan in the following ways.
- By creating an account with 2degrees ( 2degrees MyAccount ) and log in to your SIM's account and apply the plan accordingly (10GB - $45, 50GB - $60, Unlimited - $85). Your SIM already has credit, and you do not need to add more funds.
- Or you can dial 200 from your 2degrees SIM and ask a 2degrees team member to apply the prepay pack for you. This call is free. Your SIM already has credit, and you do not need to add more funds.
3. Making Calls & Sending Texts
Your NZ Mobile number is printed on the back of your SIM. It begins with 02
Calls & texts in NZ
To make calls in NZ numbers, dial the NZ numbers directly. Not prefixes are required.
Calls & texts to Australia
To make calls to Australian numbers whilst in the NZ, dial the Australia prefix +61 followed by the Australian mobile number without the 0 (first digit). Eg. +61 432 123 456.
Note: If incorrect dial out codes are used, you will receive a nil balance/top up message - This is because the network does not recognise the location of the number you're dialling. It does not mean you've run out of credit.
Receiving calls & texts from Australia
Your friends and family can call and text your assigned NZ mobile number by dialling the NZ prefix +64 followed by your NZ mobile number without the 0 (first digit) Eg. +64 234 567 890. Incoming calls are free for you. If the person calling you does not have free calls to NZ numbers as part of their plan, they may be charged international calling rates.
4. Checking Balances
The easiest way to monitor data usage is via your phone's network settings. There should be a data tracker which lets you know how much data has been used since inserting the SIM.
The other method is to register an account with 2degrees NZ after successful activation of your SIM card. You will need to sign up and login at: https://www.2degrees.nz/2d/mobile/common/login/login.jsp
5. FAQs
Q. I am traveling for more than 30 days. Can the NZ SIM be recharged?
A. You can top up online or by using 2degrees Mobile App. You can also recharge over the phone by dialling 201 from your mobile and following the prompts. You can also recharge in any of 2degrees' retail stores. https://www.2degrees.nz/store-locator
Q. I have run out of data. Can I top up/add more data?
A. Yes data top ups is possible. It's $10NZD for each 500MBs (quite expensive). We recommend buying multiple SIMs and staggering use if more data is required.
Q. Can I use my NZ SIM on a cruise?
A. Cellular coverage depends on your vicinity to network towers. At open sea, when you're outside range of network towers, cellular signal may be weak or not available.
Q. Can I forward calls from my Australian number to my NZ mobile number?
A. You will need to check with your Australian carrier if they allow call diversions to international numbers. This is because anyone calling you may not be aware they're being diverted to an international number, which may cost them.
Q. I have activated my SIM, calls and texts are working but data is not working?
A. If calls and texts are working but data is not. Please check that the APN your device has automatically configured to is correct. https://www.2degrees.nz/help/mobile-help/getting-started/mobile-settings
